When the Caravan of Love arrived in Australia, they parked their caravan in Fitzroy. In this strange suburb Vrushka, Kartie, Elsie and Madame Eva met four women not unlike themselves, who took them under their wing and took them to their first Aussie pub. It was there that the Caravan introduced their special brand of cabaret and performed monthly to a band of loyal Melbournians.
Eva Johansen, Kate Sumner, Alice Palermo and Carla Rinaudo became the Caravan’s crew and, today, travel with them everywhere they go. These women met at Deakin University while studying contemporary arts (don’t hold that against them, they’re nice girls). They have supported the Caravan since 2004, taking them from smokey bars in Fitzroy, to the Comedy, Fringe and Falls festivals, the Village, the Forum Theatre and the Famous Speigeltent.
The Caravan of Love is a group of four women who began a monthly Kabarett, called Kunst Ist Scheisse - Kabarett, at Babel in Brunswick St (2004): A residency that lasted for over a year. The group then moved to Yelza in Gertrude St, Fitzroy in order to accommodate an ever increasing audience.
As the popularity of the show grew, The Caravan was invited to perform at many festivals and events in and around Melbourne. Some of the group’s highlights include supporting the Living End at The Corner Hotel, performing in the Spiegeltent and performing at the Falls Festival.
